The concept of the Northern Clinical Training Network (NCTN) was developed in 2008 as a collaboration between James Cook University School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queensland Health and community and private sector partners.  In 2013 staff began working fulltime for the NCTN in Cairns, Townsville and Mackay.

Stakeholders of the Northern Clinical Training Network recognise that a coordinated approach to training between private, community and public hospital settings will provide quality and breadth of clinical experience to medical trainees.

A Steering Committee of these stakeholders supports the work of  the Clinical Deans and Development Officers in the Network nodes of Cairns, Townsville and Mackay.
